This 260sqkm park is mad4 up of Lake Mburo and four smaller lakes, fed by the Ruizi River. Situated at an altitude of between 1200and 1800m above sea level, with a low annual rainfall,Africa Tours  turning it into one of the hotter, drier parts of Uganda. Lasting and seasonal swamps attach to the lakes.


The park is especially savannah with acacia tees, open grasslands, thickets, woodlands and wetlands. Lake Mburo is habitat to a great number of wildlife and birdlife, even if it does not have all of the ‘Big five’. This site was initially used by Bahima pastrolists for grazing cattle and goats. When it was conserved as a national park in 1983, several pastrolists and local fishermen were compulsorily removed. This yielded a lot of dissent, but now with the formation of a community conservation unit, the indigenous people have been made part of those boosting tourism and conservation, so that it involves and straight away benefits them.

The west side of the park has rocky hills and flat-bottomed grasslands, perfect for game viewing. The east side has rising and falling hills and gravel outcrops. In Lake Mburo National Park you view part of the last left over herds of impala, spotted no where else in Uganda. namibia safari The park also harbors herds of buffalo and Burchell’s zebra. Other antelope include eland, topi, klipspringer, oribi and reedbuck. Predators are rarely seen, which turns this park perfect for walking safaris, provided you are escorted by an armed game ranger. You can also employ a wooden Ssese canoe for a trip to Lake Mburo and lock up meeting with hippo and crocodile. For bird-lovers, Africa safari Mburo has 310 various species, and chiefly interesting are the bare-faced lourie (go-away bird), the Ruppell’s long-tailed starling and the black-bellied burstard.

Mbarara is the main town which is 4 hour’s voyage from Kampala, is the gateway to western Uganda. It is also a significant agricultural area. Mbarara was the capital of the Ankole Kingdom back in the 1500s, but in 1875, it turned into decline because of the rise of Bunyoro Kitara kingdom in addition to diseases.
